Managing artists

This tutorial describes how to manage artist associations on your albums and tracks.

How the artist association works

When the product status is set to "active", the system searches for an artist resource for each artist and contributor name transmitted in the album and track metadata. If the artist already exists for the submitted name, Labelcamp chooses the one with the highest priority, otherwise, it creates a new one with priority value set to "1", and associates it as a role with the product and the track.

The artist entity makes it possible to associate several proprietary DSP IDs through availabilities (eg. an Apple Artist ID or a Spotify Artist URI), and thus to comply with the various best practice programs developed by DSPs.

Does Labelcamp support multiple artists with the same name?

Yes, Labelcamp supports this scenario. As a distributor, you need to ensure that you give the highest priority to the "default" artist to guarantee that Labelcamp will associate future releases with the artist you want.

Is it possible to create an artist before creating an album?

To control the association of an album and its tracks with an artist, you can create the artist in advance. You can assign it the highest priority for its name, and associate DSP IDs by adding DSP availabilities if you know them.

In this way, you can anticipate future releases, and ensure that Labelcamp will associate new albums to this artist resource.

Is it possible to update a previously submitted artist's association?

To update the artist association after a release has been set to active, you just need to take advantage of the priority mechanism, set your album to draft, and set it to active again. This way Labelcamp will reprocess each role, and set the artist with the highest priority as described before.
